Choosing an architect to work on your home or building project is very personal. They are going to plan how to bring your desires into reality and you need to find someone who understands you, is willing to go above and beyond for your project and someone who you trust. This article looks at 5 important things you should consider when choosing an architect.

1. Are they really an architect? This might seem like a silly question but you don’t necessarily have to be an architect to design buildings. Instead it is possible to hire someone who offers architectural design services that isn’t licensed. This is completely legitimate and it doesn’t discredit their services in any way. They offer the same quality designs but you’ll often find they are less expensive. If you’re tight on budget, this might be something worth looking at.

2.  Communication. This one word is very important. Building a home is all about teamwork and you need to choose an architect that is a team player. Moreover you need to choose an architect that will discuss your ideas with you down to the finest pin point and someone is eloquent in relaying these ideas to the builders. Look for someone who is open and willing to communicate.

3. Someone who is versatile. The key to choosing any contractor, regardless of industry, is to opt for someone with a wide range of experience. Experience is very important as it confirms their sills but choosing someone with versatility in their experience you will find is more beneficial. An architect who has worked on a wide range of projects will have a broader range of ideas so they are more likely to create the desired design for you. Ask to see examples of projects they have previously worked on. You will be able to tell whether they work in a particular style or whether they are open to change and new styles.

4. Reviews and reputation. The better reviews and recommendations an architect has will represent their quality of the work. Do some snooping online and ask around families and friends to see who they would recommend.

5.  Look at their work. I mentioned previously to look at examples of their projects but also request to see their plans. Have a look how much detail the architect goes into on his designs. The more intricate the detail is the less likely of error. Ask to see some designs and note how carefully planned they are.
