"A goal is a dream with a definite deadline" - Zig Ziglar… It is very different to dream about something, and work to achieve it. A dream is something we want to do "someday" and found only in our head. Having a dream is important because the process begins to manifest in reality, but it is not enough.
A dream becomes a goal, one goal becomes objectives, and goals become an action plan daily. The correct goal setting is essential to achieve it. Then I leave a simple formula for setting goals strengthened with steroids.
You can remember it by its acronym… "S.M.A.R.T."… A goal should be…
S - Specific
A goal must be specific, detailed and clear. It must be written in order to review it periodically. When you give to the task of describing your goals, you are faced with the challenge of defining exactly what you want. This process is essential to achieve, as it is when you're communicating the information to your brain and subconscious, giving the order to begin work on its manifestation. They require very detailed and specific information.
M - Measurable
Your goal must be measurable, so that you can identify if you are moving and how much. A goal that is not measurable is doomed to failure, because you will lose sight very easily. Unable to know if you are progressing or not, you lose interest in it. Whether a measurable, you will identify progress, which fills us with energy to move forward.
A - Achievable
Your goals should be achievable. If you are, you will develop the attitudes, abilities, skills and ability to achieve them. If you set a goal that is too far away or seems unattainable, it is not likely to commit yourself to it. If you have a very large and difficult goal to achieve, it is preferable to divide it into smaller, achievable goals, defining the next step. Remember that both success and failure are habits. We must begin to create the right habit.
R - Realistic and Relevant
A goal should be realistic and relevant. The realistic and relevant being goes hand in hand. For a goal to be realistic, you must be within your means and be willing to do what is necessary to achieve it. For a goal to be relevant, it must be important to you and be aligned with your values, principles and wishes. If a goal is not relevant, it may well be unrealistic. A realistic and relevant goal is energizing and inspiring goal that have the resources, you are willing to do and is aligned with your values and principles.
T - Time Bounded
All goals should have a time limit to be reached. The time-set must take into account the revised hitherto characteristics, must be specific, it must be achievable and realistic. The goals have a definite time, are difficult to measure and easy to forget when something new comes to our attention.
In the end, to create the reality we want, we must turn our dreams into specific goals, which we can work daily to approach them and express them through action.
