Conservatories come in all shapes and sizes and can be a delightful place to sit and relax in the summer months, or in all seasons for that matter. But they have more uses than you may think. Here are a just a few of the different uses of a modern conservatory.
Plants and gardens
Conservatories are ideal for growing plants with their glazed windows which concentrate the rays of the sun. Green fingered conservatory owners use theirs for growing anything from small pots to veritable indoor gardens.
Dining
They also make great dining areas and in the summer months with the doors wide open you can really get that al fresco feel.
Relaxing work environment
From relaxation to work, conservatories make ideal additional office space. The natural lighting and garden views can be an ideal place from which to work and create a stress free office space.
Take the plunge
This is a rather high-end option, but if you've got a big enough conservatory (and the funds), you could have an indoor swimming pool built in.
For the kids
Many parents have put their conservatory to good use by turning it into a child's play area. Often the floor and other surfaces are easy to clean up spillages and the like.
Creative space
If you enjoy hobbies and crafts like painting, knitting, creative writing, or maybe playing a musical instrument, conservatories can set the ideal tone to propel your creativity into overdrive.
For big kids
If hobbies and crafts aren't your thing, then what about a games room? Snooker, pool, table tennis, they're all possibilities with the right sized conservatory.
Cinema
Many conservatory owners use theirs as a mini cinema by installing a flat screen TV and some cinematic audio equipment. It can make the ideal extra room to unwind with friends and family in front of a good film.
Entertaining
A conservatory can also be used as extra kitchen space. Kitchens are increasingly being used to entertain guests these days, and with a conservatory annexed onto your cooking area they can make for the perfect extension when entertaining your guests.
Simply read a book - no matter the weather
When the sun's out nothing can be better than sitting down with a good book. Of course the British summer isn't known for consistency, but with a conservatory you get the benefit of the sun's rays even if it is still a little on the fresh side. But it's not all about sunshine. Many people love sitting in theirs when it's raining too. The pitter patter of a million raindrops above while you're warm and dry inside can be very relaxing. Plus there is something so relaxing about sinking into your conservatory furniture, the soft scatter cushions feel more comfortable than our leather sofa.
Get in shape
Save money on gym membership by turning your conservatory into a gym. The light and bright feel can somehow make you feel more motivated and energised when getting that body toned and into shape.
If for nothing else...
If simply sitting with a good book, working, practicing hobbies and crafts, working out or swimming isn't for you, then at the very least your conservatory makes for ideal storage space. Whether it be for vacuum cleaners, boxes of just about anything, cleaning gear and so on, all of it can be kept out of your house while being protected from the elements.
How many more ideas for your conservatory can you think of? We haven't even mentioned hot tub room, pet room and astronomical observatory yet. With a little imagination the possibilities are practically limitless.
