Whether you are just moving to the Big D or you and the kiddos have called this place home for a while it’s time to get in the know about some of the best schools in DFW.   1. Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center-Located in East Oak Cliff Townview is both uniquely cultural and highly accomplishing. With a collegiate feel and the recognition to prove it, the DISD magnet is composed of six schools.  The school consists of: The School of Science and Engineering (SEM), The School for the Talented and Gifted (TAG), The School of Government, Law, & Law Enforcement (LAW), The School of Business and Management (BMC), The School of Education and Social Services (ESSM), and The School of Health Professions (HSHP). According to a recent annual study by U.S. News and World Report, the school for Talented and Gifted (TAG) was ranked the top high school in the country. The School of Science and Engineering (SEM) was also ranked eighth in the country among top high schools.
  2. Notre Dame School-Unlike any educational facility in the Metroplex, Notre Dame School serves as a premier institution for students suffering from learning disabilities. Notre Dame is a private Catholic School and can be found in the North Dallas sector of town.
  3. Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy-This exemplary all male academy currently serves young men from 6th-11th grade. In the Spring Semester of 2014-2015 the Academy will have its first graduating class. The Academy has a range of courses including Mandarin, Latin and Spanish. Young men attending the academy are also exposed to a bevy of extracurricular activities such as golf, lacrosse, conditioning club and intramural sports. The Academy is located on Lancaster road in Dallas.
  4. Prairie Creek Elementary-Prairie Creek Elementary is located in Richardson, TX. The school currently has around 307 students attending between Kindergarten and 6th grade. At Prairie Creek, high achievement is incredibly visible. Test scores are through the roof, with results for the STAAR surpassing the 90 percentile mark. Students are exposed to a variety of programs to enhance their educational experience, such as the Beta Club, a non-profit academic leadership program. Other activities include, Jump Rope for Heart and Invention Convention.
  5. Richland Collegiate High School of Math and Science- An intriguing and matchless program, Richland Collegiate High School of Math and Science focuses on 11th and 12th graders. Students are thoroughly challenged and have the opportunity to take college courses and earn college credit. The program is so advanced that students can graduate with not only a high school diploma, but an Associates Diploma also. A few less bucks to spend on college tuition, not too shabby at all. Richland is located on Abrams Road, in North Dallas.
  6. Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School-As the first all girl’s public school in Texas, Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School is making quite a name for itself. Located in South Dallas, near the legendary Fair Park, Irma Lerma has close to 300 students in grades 6-12. The school places major importance on technology and promotes the use of Schoology and Edmodo, keeping students and teachers connected beyond the classroom. Between 2006-2013 the school received the award for Exemplary Campus by Texas Education Agency. In 2013 students were awarded over $3.5 Million in scholarships.
  7. University Park Elementary School-University Park Elementary is part of Highland Park ISD. The public is rather large, serving a little over 700 students.  Located in one of the premier neighborhoods in Dallas, the school keeps youngsters on their toes with a variety of programs. The school has received several accolades, including recognition in Washington D.C. as a National Blue Ribbon School.
  8. Stonewall Jackson Elementary School-Part of DISD, Stonewall Jackson Elementary is located in East Dallas on Mockingbird Lane. Students are kept busy with plenty to do. One of the most interesting assets to the school is the Stonewall Garden. The 20,000 square foot garden allows students to harvest crops, create scientific experiments, and get a hands on understanding of the ecosystem. Other activities include the Math Team, YMCA onsite Afterschool Program and Choir.
  9. Highland Park Middle School- Part of the Highland Park Independent School District, Highland Park Middle School is one of the best middle schools in DFW. We all know Middle School is an awkward period, but HPMS helps to ease some of those middle of the mile frustrations. Students have a plethora activities to become involved in and plenty of support throughout the neighborhood.
  10. Highland Park High School- Not too far from HPMS, is Highland Park High School. Students here are readily prepared for college with some of the rigorous courses and requirements. For those trying to figure out their next path in life the Senior Internship is very beneficial. Your student can choose from tons of clubs and extracurricular activities to satiate their needs. There’s even a Zoo Club and Origami Club. Who knew that could happen in High School?
