Surefire Signs of a Child-Friendly Neighborhood

With your next child on the way, it’s high time you started thinking about moving out of your cramped two-bedroom apartment. Although your current residence was the perfect starter home for you and your wife, it’s not exactly the best place to raise a family. For years, the two of you have discussed the possibility of buying a house, but workplace commitments and raising two children have consistently put those talks on hold. However, with space becoming increasingly scarce, you can’t put moving off any longer. There’s no question that house-hunting will eat up quite a bit of time, but you owe it to yourself, your wife and your children to find a comfortable family home. Keep in mind that when moving with children, the neighborhood can be every bit as important as the house you select. To ensure that your family winds up in a kid-friendly community, keep an eye out for the following signs.

Good Schools

Since your children will be spending the bulk of every weekday at school, it pays to look for homes in highly-rated school districts. To help simplify your search, many real estate websites allow people to limit their search options by school district. Additionally, before deciding on a certain school district, explore local message boards and see what other parents have to say about their schools. It also pays to visit a school district’s website and read up on their curriculums and general approach to learning. Doing sufficient research will ultimately enable you to determine if a certain district is a good fit for your children.

Lots of Children

Neighborhoods that have large numbers of children are ideal for couples who have young kids. Not only will your little ones seldom find themselves in need of playmates, the neighborhood’s adults will be far more amenable to the loud noises and inevitable mischief caused by rambunctious youngsters. Few people are more patient with children than other parents. Alternatively, neighborhoods with very few children are frequently home to residents who don’t wish to be bothered by other people’s little ones. Furthermore, since they won’t be able to play with other people their age, your kids are liable to be very bored in a community with virtually no children.

Kid-Friendly Attractions

Watching television, playing videogames and engaging in other indoor activities will only keep your little ones entertained for so long. With this in mind, look for neighborhoods that feature an abundance of parks, playgrounds, libraries and community centers. Regularly visiting these locales will enable your kids to burn off excess energy, stay entertained and make new friends. As an added bonus, it will also provide you with the chance to get acquainted with other neighborhood parents. If you have children who are too young to attend school, keep an eye out for neighborhoods that feature community daycare centers.

A small apartment is no place for a growing family. Not only do your kids need ample room to play, you and your wife need personal space in which to relax and unwind. Moving into a spacious home in a child-friendly neighborhood will enable your family to live comfortably in a safe and welcoming community.
