Redesign Your Backyard - Swimming Pool Area

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 11 June 2014 22:32

Building a swimming pool in your backyard can seem like a daunting task to undertake, but once you start planning you will realize it is just a sequence of manageable steps which, with just a little bit of patience, can turn out to be really fun and engaging. As it goes with everything connected with redesigning of your living space, you have an opportunity to express yourself and leave your mark on the area, making it uniquely yours and enjoyable.

But before you unleash your creativity, there are a couple of things with which you need to limit yourself. First of all, mind the regulations. Inquire in your local building planning office about the rules for swimming pool construction. In certain parts of the country, you might be required to put a fence around the area of the pool, or around the pool itself. Follow the safety instructions; they are there for a reason.

Once you get regulations out of the way, consider some optional limitations which you can impose to yourself for a higher cause. Being eco-friendly, for example, is not hard at all these days. Eco-friendly materials are readily available on the market. Also, installing solar powered pool heaters is a step in the right direction. They might be an initial investment, but will pay out in the long run.

When you decide on the materials and necessary evils, all that is left is to let your imagination soar and start putting all the pieces of your design together. Try to strike a delicate balance between functionality and decorative value. Dedicate a corner of your pool area to food related stuff – you will want to put your barbecue there, as well as a fridge for cool drinks. Place a stylish shade sailabove the pool – it will protect you from the direct sunlight while at the same time giving your pool area a classier look.

Some of the most effective decorative features you can introduce in your swimming pool area have to do with water itself. Consider investing in things like subtle water fountains or small waterfalls – they are sure to bring an air of class into any area.

There are many more small things you can do to make your back yard swimming pool feel like a place where you want to spend your summer. Choose tiles which won't reflect too much light. Pick a soothing color for the tiles, because it will be dominant in the area. Match the color of your sails, tiles and furniture to create a harmonious atmosphere. Use natural materials to embellish and add a note of grace to your surroundings.

In the end, the most important thing to remember is to think out of the box and to not let your imagination be limited by what you think other people may perceive as good design. After all, your backyard is only yours (and your family's, of course), and whatever suits you is the right thing to do. Only in this way will you be able to completely relax during those long summer days, when time goes slow while you drink your cold Mojito at the pool side.
