Washington state, and it's no surprise that Seattle and its surrounding areas have become a must-live destination in the United States.

1. The Views

According to The Wall Street Journal, "of the 49 metropolitan areas with populations over 1 million, only two - both in California - have seen their unemployment rate fall more than Seattle's over the past year. And neither of those areas has seen it's unemployment rate go as low as Seattle's 5.9%. The secret to Seattle's success is its  mix of industries - a combination of technology, service and manufacturing that have hired more readily than those other parts of the country". 

 

3. The Food 

 

From the fresh seafood at Pike Place Market to the now famous, or infamous, Seattle dog to the world renown Dick's Drive-In Burgers, Seattle has some of the best restaurants and food trucks in the nation. Whether you're eating a five course meal while rotating on top of the Space Needle or enjoying an all-beef dog loaded with cream cheese and grilled unions after a night out on the town, there's no end to the amount of food you can enjoy. 

 

4. Ferry Boats

 

Seattle has the largest ferry system in the country, servicing places like the gorgeous San Juan Islands and the Puget Sound. On average, more than 75,000 commuters start their day by boarding a boat. In Seattle, you aren't limited to driving, walking, biking, or bussing to work. Here, you can sail. 

 

5. The People 

 

In 2009 Forbes ranked Seattle, Washington the 4th safest city in the country, with Violent Crime ranked a 3 out of 40 and Traffic Deaths a 8 out of 40. In 2011, according to Transportation of America, Seattle was ranked one of the least dangerous cities for pedestrians. And, of course, Seattle broke political ground last year, becoming one of the first states in the United States to legalize gay marriage.
