Teak is one of the woods most adaptable to environments and climates. The tree reaches a height of up to 50 meters, and its wood is fine and hard, it is much appreciated for the manufacture of furniture; easy to work, dry and strong; its natural durability is really good. It has resistance to termites, fungi and the weather, and is practically insensitive to moisture and insects. It has antiseptic oil that makes it very resistant and protects it from the attack of various organisms.
Due to its previous characteristics and its beauty, teak wood is considered one of the most valuable species in the world. Outdoor furniture like teak garden benches, chairs, and tables made with teak does not require paint or varnish. Moreover, it has a natural oil that makes it waterproof, avoiding cracks, deforming or breaking.
For all this is a perfect wood for your home and outdoor furniture if you do not decide or do not know much about the world of woods.
The teak, of dark tonality, looks good in practically any style of decoration. Although teak wood is perfect for outdoor use, it is increasingly used for any dependence on our house.
How to clean teak furniture
The teak wood is like our skin, while it is well moisturized it is soft and smooth, but when it is dry and rough, then it needs hydration. This hydration can be done once or twice a year, depending on the needs of the wood.
In that case, the untreated teak furniture requires little maintenance, apart from an annual cleaning to remove dirt and dust. We will wash it with water, soap and a soft brush, once cleaned, rinse the furniture thoroughly with fresh water and let it air dry.
Recovers the natural color of teak
Although the silver-gray color that appears on the teak over time adds rustic charm to the furniture, some people may prefer to restore the furniture to its original color. Recovering the original appearance of the teak is possible but requires effort and perseverance, at least to do it once a year. First, we will clean the furniture as we have explained before and once we are sure that they are well dried we can begin to treat them, which is really simple. We will simply apply our teak oil, which will nourish the wood and protect it from the weather and climate changes.
After carrying out the restoration of the furniture and letting the products dry, there are some precautions that we can take to prevent the cracks from reappearing. I mean, for example, to avoid getting wet by rain or watering. In case that happens, it is advisable to be careful to dry them immediately, before the water penetrates the wood. So that this does not happen we can place them under the roof when they are not used, or cover them with some kind of waterproof cover. Remember that better than to cure is to prevent, and this is something that we can achieve with a little bit of care.
