Given the convenience and ease that the Internet has afforded everyone, it did not come as a surprise when transactions such as getting credit cards and even buying homes is now done online. This trend has given rise to a host of new Internet-based careers. If you are a real estate marketer, it’s really important that you know search engine optimization or SEO.

If you are new to this, SEO is basically the process of promoting a site or page to make it more searchable by the user in search engines such as Google and Yahoo. At the base of any SEO campaign is keyword use. There are a few things about keyword use that you should know to maximize the potential of your on-page promotions.

Use keywords with high search volumes

The Internet contains a lot of information on a lot of topics. A search engine is programmed to go through all these published pages and tag them according to the topic that they target. This process is called indexing. Getting tagged or indexed is necessary for a page to be displayed by a search engine when a user does a search. To make sure that your page gets indexed by a search engine, you must use keywords that appropriately represent your topic.

Where does search volume come in? So that your post will be read by your target audience, you must write it in such a way that it targets the keyword that they use to scour the web. There are free tools outline that help you determine which keywords within your niche are most frequently used by users to get to the pages that they need. Of course, the higher the search volume, the greater the number of people using that keyword to look for content. The greater the number of people searching, the higher the chances of your page getting viewed. This basically is the reason keywords with high search volumes are preferred. Established SEO companies like EXTORFX have deep appreciation for these principles for sure.

Target a primary keyword together with secondary ones

When you search for a keyword in any tool, it can actually return a list of closely related keywords with their corresponding search volumes. From this list, you can get the keywords–primary and secondary–that you can use in your post. Which keyword becomes the primary keyword is all up to you. Some writers make primary the one with the highest search volume. Some use the keywords that most specifically represent their topics of choice.

What’s the point of secondary keywords? Search engines rarely categorize a page under one keyword only. Based on its algorithm, Google, for example,  might categorize a page under ‘home for sale,’ ‘house for sale,’ ‘buying house,’ and other similar keywords. The more keywords that you target, the more categories you get indexed under and the greater your reach.
