Congratulations. You’ve finally made the move. Now, you’ll either be moving in within the next few weeks, or you’ve just moved in. Your things are still in boxes, and you’re unsure what to do next. Before you unpack, there are a few things that you need to do and consider. You need to make sure that you have everything ready for your new home so that the transition can be as smooth as possible. To give you a hand, here’s a list of the first 4 things you need to do.
1. Clean Up the New House
Before you unpack all the boxes, take the opportunity to give your new house a fresh cleaning. The previous homeowners probably vacuumed and swept but then the home sat vacant for months. Go through and get into all the hard-to-reach places that you wouldn’t be able to get when you finish unpacking. Even go as far as to get a professional carpet cleaner out and get the carpets in the whole house done. Enlist the entire family to give you a hand, and the work will go a lot faster as well. Clean the inside of the cabinets extremely well and disinfect the inside of the fridge and the freezer. Clean out the stove and then run over the walls with a magic-eraser to make the sure the house is looking absolutely fresh and new. Now when you set down your fancy men’s designer bag, you’ll feel comfortable in the cleanliness of your home. You’ll feel even happier and more satisfied with your purchase.
2. Look into a Security System
Whether or not you had one in the past, you should consider getting a security system for your new home. Every year there are around 3.7 million burglaries. The majority of burglaries happen to home without security systems while the family is gone. Out of all burglaries, one million happen while a family member is home. If you want to feel safe in your new home, then you’ll want to get a security system to protect and warn you if someone is breaking into the home. Since having a security sign up in the front of your home deters the majority of break-ins, you’ll be able to sleep a little more soundly at night with the system in place. There are a lot of different options for security systems, and you can easily find one that fits with your needs and your budget.
3. Get Some Air Fresheners
Most homes have a smell. It’s always distinct and often smells like the family that lived there before. If the family that lived there before left an odd smell for you to clean up, then you might want to get some air fresheners for the home. Head over to a store and find some candles that you absolutely love. Some people even get candles seasonally for their home and switch out with each holiday, so there’s always a fresh new scent to experience. You should feel completely comfortable in your new home so don’t worry about making the changes that you need to make to ensure that your home is what you need it to be.
4. Check Over the Home
You should’ve checked over the house’s systems before you bought it. But if you haven’t, then now is a good time to make sure. You should go through and make sure that everything is working as it should. Make sure that the heating and cooling systems are in place and that the plumbing works great as well. The last thing that you would want is for a problem to sneak up on your after you’ve only been there for a few months. By going through and checking all the systems, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and stress if something were to happen in the future.
You should love the home that you just bought. And you deserve to feel happy and safe with your purchase. DO whatever you need to do to make sure that you love your new home.
