Do you want to repaint your wooden deck? Does your wooden deck look a bit sad? Placing a new paint can be the solution. However, if repainting a wooden deck can be tiring, it remains a project that everyone can perform, provided they follow the right process. There are some indications in this article to repaint your wooden deck in the rules of the art.

Repainting a wooden deck: preliminary precautions

Subject to the most extreme climatic conditions, the terrace and its paint undergo a large number of attacks that mark it over time. To avoid letting it spoil and suffer damage that could become irreversible, it is necessary from time to time to repaint your wooden deck.

If your terrace is old or seems very bad, it is necessary to check upstream if it is still structurally able to do its job without endangering people. If the wood seems deeply gnawed or attacked, it may be necessary to completely replace the deck or to make it more complete repairs. If in doubt, consult a professional who will be in charge of checking the condition of your terrace. Without this, it can be dangerous to be content to repaint it, and thus give a false impression of solidity.

Repainting a wooden deck: necessary materials

To repaint a wooden deck, it is necessary to be equipped with the following equipment:

---> Pressure washer

---> Special paint on the terrace or outside ground (always check the indications of the seller to make sure to buy the right product)

---> Flat brush for angles and borders

---> Roller and handle to apply paint more easily

---> Protective tape or masking tape for outdoor

Repainting a wooden deck: step by step

Ideally done before the summer and when the humidity is not too strong, repainting a wooden deck is done in a few simple steps that we describe here. Note that if the steps are relatively simple to perform, getting a good finish that takes time requires some dexterity.

Prepare the support

If your deck was already painted or was covered with a stain or saturator treatment, it is necessary to start with a sanding of the entire surface. The wood must be visible.

Then clean your terrace with a pressure washer. If the use of such a device is not always recommended, this tool is very effective and practical to prepare it for painting. If you do not have such equipment, wash the terrace with a scrubber, with a special emphasis on stains and other traces. Then protect the contours of the terrace and the elements that are attached to it (walls, supports, etc.) using the masking tape.

Paint angles and border

The terrace is now ready to receive its first coat of paint. You can now start painting with your wide, flat brush, starting at a corner and following the edges. Cover the entire surface within 5-10 cm around the deck. This area is difficult to access with the roller, which makes the brush the ideal tool. Note that it is necessary to deposit a rather generous layer of paint and not to pull it too much while avoiding to leave pies.

Continue, always with a brush, passing a layer of paint between the wooden boards of the terrace. This area, just like the contours can be difficult to access with the roller. If the shape of the blades allows it, this step may not be necessary.

Paint the wooden deck

Finally, with the help of your roller, and possibly the handle that you will have fixed on it to have not worked crouching, cover the whole terrace with the first coat of paint. After a few hours of drying, usually, 8 hours (depending on the brand of paint purchased), spend a second coat. After a drying period of 24 to 48 hours, your deck is ready for use again.
